Construit au XI e siècle sur un piton rocheux à 190 mètres d'altitude, le château d'Hyères fût un des plus grands châteaux de Provence. Il fût remanié par Charles 1 er d'Anjou en 1257 et démantelé par Henri IV pendant les guerres de religions. Puis il fût rasé sur ordre de Louis XIII.
